Help Repeal South Dakota's Abortion Ban -
NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota and its partners are standing together for one common goal: to repeal South Dakota's draconian abortion ban.

On June 19, South Dakota's Secretary of State certified that South Dakotans will have the opportunity in November to repeal the state's outrageous abortion ban. But this fight is not over.

Here's how you can help:

Donate: NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota and its coalition partners need funds to knock on doors, call voters, run ads and make sure everyone in the state knows how critial it is to vote down this ban.
Click here to support our organizing efforts in South Dakota!

Learn more: Read NARAL Pro-Choice South Dakota's latest press release about the ballot referendum, and click here to learn more about the ban.

Spread the word: Thirteen other states are considering or did consider statewide abortion bans of their own during this legislative session. Help us spread the word to people in your community about these outright attempts to end a woman's right to choose by writing a letter to the editor. Click here for a list of newspapers in your state to contact.

Contact Governor Rendell: With 13 other states considering abortion bans, it's up to pro-choice Pennsylvanians to send a message to our governor urging him to veto any anti-choice legislation this session.

Show your solidarity: Print out our "Not In My State" flyer and put it up at the office, your home, or your dorm room. Click here to download the flyer.

Samuel Alito, Jr. -
Samuel Alito's own words reveal his anti-choice legal philosophy.

In an application for a key post in the Reagan administration’s Justice Department, he wrote: "I am particularly proud of my contributions in recent cases in which the government has argued in the Supreme Court . . . that the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion."

What Alito's Confirmation Means To You -
Let's not sugar-coat it: this is a bad day for our nation, and the American values of freedom and privacy.

With the confirmation of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, President Bush and his anti-choice allies now have enough votes on the Court to dismantle a woman's right to choose. And there are more than a few upcoming court cases that the new anti-choice majority on the Supreme Court could use to undermine reproductive freedom and privacy.

What is the Nuclear Option? -
The “nuclear option” is a precedent shattering technique that may soon be coming to the U.S. Senate. Coined by Senate Republicans enjoying their majority position in both houses, the “nuclear option” describes the potential elimination of the filibuster rule, one of the last resorts of the minority party in the Senate to stop the confirmation of judicial nominees to lifetime appointments on the Federal Benches. The filibuster is an informal term used to describe any attempt to block or delay Senate action on a bill or other matter by debating it at length, by offering numerous procedural motions, or by any other delaying actions. The filibuster has a 200-year history of being used by Senate Democrats and Republicans to prevent one party from having absolute power.
